Ezekiel 35-37
I’m getting ready to show my age a little and that’s okay. Do you guys remember the show Hanging with Mr. Cooper? If not I’m sorry (go look it up.). If so, can you recall the episode when Raven Simone’s character was being bullied? She was so reluctant to tell her mom what was going on because she knew how her mother would respond. Rightfully so, because when Regina found out that someone had been mistreating her child, she went up to that school to get some straightening!!!! “WHOS BEEN MESSING WITH MY BABY!!!!???!?!?!?” This iconic line is how I see the Lord coming to the defense of His people. Edom was the bully in this case. And the Lord was not only coming to have a conversation with them, but He was going to get them ALLL the way together, because the time for talking was over. When Israel was going through their chastisement, Edom rejoiced, laughed at, and mistreated them. By the time God was done with Edom, the whole world would rejoice and know that Yahweh is the LORD!
The Lord speaks to the land in these chapters as well. There had been so much idolatry, bloodshed, and abominations that had taken place in the land that God had given to the Israelites, that He had to give it a little pep talk before the people came back. He was essentially saying “Look here, know that they were wildin before, and because of it they had be be judged and punished. You ended up getting a bad name because of it….. But things are going to turn around. The nations aren’t going to be able to talk bad about you anymore.”
God lets them know through Ezekiel, that it isn’t because of anything they’ve done to deserve it. It is because their actions, have caused His name to be sullied.
There is retribution, restoration, rehabilitation, and revitalization in Ezekiel 35-37! We even get to see DRY BONE COME TO LIFE! My God! I hope y’all are ready and have studied. Because this lesson was really good to me! (I know I say that all the time, and I mean it everytime!)
